Homecoming Friday!

Greetings!

I hope that this blog finds you enjoying this beautiful fall day!  Today was the last day of Homecoming Week.  The kids had a lot of fun dressing up even if they weren't fully comprehensive of what "homecoming" meant.  Today was "Tornado Day" where we got to wear our tornado gear and lots of green and orange.  Since we are playing Spencer tonight for the football game we all made football helmets that we wore to the pep rally and the students can wear to the parade and the game!

Back Row:  Angela, Josilyn, Hennessy, Joanne, Presilla, Claire
Middle Row:  Dainy, Jude, Ernesto, Felipe, David, Aiden
Front Row:  Kristina, Eileen, Dania, Nelly, EhHserMuLar Soe, Madison
Here are my Tornadoes showing their FIERCE muscles!
WE'RE #1!
And of course....GOOFY!

After we got our helmets done it was time for the pep rally!
It was a packed house!
Felipe and Dainy are ready to go!

Joanne is excited!
Are the cheerleaders in the closet?...... NOPE
Are they outside this door? .... NOPE
Here they are!!!  The girls were really excited and liked the outfits that they were wearing!  Now it's time to cheer!

I hope that all of you have a GREAT weekend and enjoy this beautiful weather we are supposed to have!

All About Bats

We are lucky to have many programs in Storm Lake.  Katie the Naturalist gets to come into our classrooms and she teaches us about things in nature.  The kids seemed pretty interested in Bats today!  We learned that bats have as good of eyesight as humans do!  There are also nine different kinds of bats that live in Iowa.  We also got to touch a bat which felt like a soft animal...and was small!!!!!!  Here are the pictures from our lesson today!
This is Miss Katie

Mrs. Mortensen's class joined us as well!

Then we got to see the real ones...kind of cool if you ask me!
And this is where we got to touch one!

After we got to see real bats and then touch one, Katie read Stella Luna to us!  What a GREAT story!

Being at the end of the day and the middle of the week.  Some found it hard to stay awake!

Thank you Katie for coming in to talk to us!!!!  We reallly enjoyed your presentation!

We are wearing GREEN the next two days!!!!

I Am Special

Greetings fellow readers!

This week we met a fictional character named C.Q. for curious and questions.  He sent us a poster of what he looked like and told us that he had a lot of questions and wanted to know what we looked like!  The students were really excited to get this project underway!  We compared our bodies to C.Q. and found out that we have a lot of things the same....but overall we were human and he might be a frog.  All of us then traced ourselves and talked about the clothing that we were wearing and then made our paper bodies look like our real bodies.

Today....we labeled the parts of my drawing and then the students did the same.  This was a great activity and the students loved it!  It was a great way for the students to get used to matching words and looking for lowercase letters.

Here the students are looking for the words that they will then glue on their bodies.
Nelly has her body all labeled!
We had a SEA of bodies!!!!!!

Tomorrow we are going to compare everybody to each other.  The goal of this lesson is to realize that everyone is special and that they share qualities...but they are all UNIQUE!  And believe me...we are all unique :)

Make sure to give your paper child a hug when they come home on Friday...or Monday!

More Color Days!

Joanne and Angela
Madison, Eileen, and Dainy

Madison showing off her journal for the day!

Sorry I am sooo behind!  Lots to catch you up on! We have made it through all of our color days! The kids and I had a lot of fun working with a color each day.  I think the class favorite was the day we had BROWN and our gingerbread man got away from us!  That sneaky man...we had to chase him all around the school, but he sure was delicious when we found him!
Here they are....sneaky let me tell you!

We caught him!!!!!!!!  And we are going to devour him just like the fox!!!

Yes...they were delicious!
And MESSY :0)
More and more gingerbread men.  I hope that they didn't run away after they came home!

For PINK day....we read the story Pinkilicious.  The students (and I) really enjoy this story.  We had a lot of fun.  After we made a list of things that were pink and writing and drawing pink things in our journal we read the story of the girl who turned pink.  Then...we ate our own pink cupcakes.  Luckily none of us turned pink...we also only got to eat one :o)

Kristina loves the pink stuff!!

Joanne

We had fun.  Now that color days are over we can wear whatever we want but the kids still ask what color they can wear tomorrow!  We will have some color days for Character Counts but I will let you know when that comes along!
